Military: Key Dates in Princess Leonor’s First Year of Training | AGM Zaragoza | 2023-2024

The following are key dates of Spain‘s Princess Leonor‘s first year military training at the Academia General Militar Zaragoza (AGM Zaragoza) for the academic year 2023-2024. Princess Leonor will undergo a condensed program, completing two courses of military training in one academic year:

  • Aug 17 2023 | Enrolment in AGM Zaragoza with 613 new cadets of which 140 are women.
  • Aug 18-30 2023 | New cadets will undergo a two-week period of adaption and orientation to military life, and level tests before officially beginning the first course of academic instruction and basic military training.
  • Aug 31 2023 | New cadets are officially incorporated into the general student body of AGM Zaragoza.
  • Sep 1 2023 | The official start of the first course of academic instruction and basic military training.
  • Sep 19 2023 | New cadets will receive their traditional sabers, officially becoming gentlemen (caballero) and lady (dama) cadets.
  • Oct 7 2023 | Jura de Bandera – New cadets will pledge allegiance to the flag of Spain in the Patio de Armas. Princess Leonor completes the first course and then proceeds to the second course of military training at AGM Zaragoza.
  • Oct 31 2023 | Princess Leonor turns 18 years of age, reaching age of majority. Princess Leonor will appear before the Cortes Generales (Parliament) of Spain, to take the oath to uphold the Constitution and pledge loyalty to the king.
  • Dec 7-20 2023 | First term exams.
  • Dec 22 2023 – Jan 7 2024 | Christmas vacations.
  • Jan 8 2024 | Start of the second term.
  • Feb 20 2024 | AGM Zaragoza anniversary celebrations.
  • Mar 28-Apr 4 2024 | Holy Week vacations.
  • May 11-24 2024 | Second term exams
  • May 25-Jun 30 2023 | Continued instruction and training.
  • Jul 1-19 2024 | Extraordinary exams and convocation sessions. Completion of first year of military training.
